I live on a cul-de-sac and all thru the week there are pizza deliveries, chinese deliveries, and other dinner deliveries. Most of the people on my block have elementary age children and it seems no one really cooks dinner anymore. On trash day there are discarded pizza boxes piled up on top of peoples trash. Are we cooking less for our children? Do you order take out a lot or do you buy already prepared frozen foods for your family like Stouffers or Marie Calendars? I'm not insulting anyone so please don't get angry. I only have my husband to cook for and I don't know what it's like to have to cook for a large family after having worked all day long. It just seems that back in the day, moms actually cooked dinner. My mom worked and went to school full time, had six children, and we never ate "already prepared" food as a child.Tell me your opinion? Do you cook, order out, or buy per cooked frozen food at the supermarket? Are kids more overweight now than when you were a child?

Damn right! i think it is rather disgusting that these days we find ourselves very busy in the world we have created and try to please bosses at work and work for bonuses but do not actually think about one thing we work so hard for - healthy, happy living! i see ready cooked meals, crisps, takeaways, chocolates, pop, sweets in shopping trolleys that it just reminds me how much of additives, colours, e-numbers and preservatives go down our gullets rather than wholesome, healthy, freshly cooked, nutritious food. yes i think that obesity can be blamed to eating lifestlye.while I admit to keeping frozen vegetable in the freezer for those just-in-case situations, we buy fresh vegetables & fruits all the time. Start to cook just 20 minutes b4 we sit to eat. we might eat out perhaps once in 2-3 months. no takeaways or frozen foods. They taste of cardboard anyway and don't' give any satisfaction whatsoever.A happy, healthy home is where the kitchen is lively and well used on a daily basis where there fresh vegetables and fruits stocked up and family have quality time together.hope that helps :)

Well I know that t.v. dinners and such have been around since the 50's (I think) but I'm certain that there weren't as many pre-made food options. The other day at the supermarket I actually saw pre-made sloppy joes that you just have to heat up. I thought to myself it doesn't get any easier than making a sloppy joe yet they have them already made for you now. It's crazy. My boyfriend loves to cook so he usually cooks for me but if he is out of town for work and I have to make something for myself I usually have something simple like a sandwich or bowl of cereal! I just don't like to cook that often mostly because I don't like to clean up the mess! LOL I know I sound terribly lazy. Ordering take-out is sometimes just so much easier especially when you have kids and one of them has to be at dance class the other soccer and the other piano lessons. Yes kids are definitely more overweight but that isn't only because of all the junk food although that is part of it. Kids are definitely not as active as they used to be. When I was young I was outside all day through the summer and didn't even want to stop playing to go inside and eat dinner. When I was in school it was the same thing, I got home from school and was outside doing things the entire evening. Now kids are quite content to sit inside and play video games or play on the computer.

I prefer to cook...one because of taste and two because of health reasons, and three because cost.....yet, sometimes when I get in late I do not feel like it and will order a pizza or pixk up some mcdonald's which never really satisfy me like a home cooked meal. Frozen vegatable are better than canned ones so I do use frozen vegatables but full fozen course meals to me suck horobly...Kid's are more over weight now for a lot of reasons. Mainly becuae of video games and lack of physical activities like playing out oors instead of watching television....xbox'......playstations....computer's. This is the world of fast food too. So it is a combination of things. Plus, people are having less kids so it is easier to order out. In the earlier years coking was a necesity to stretch the dollars. Like I said...I prefer to cook than go out for food.

You're observant and correct--people eat out more than ever before. I think people are either very busy or very lazy--perhaps both. I'm a lucky man because my wife makes us three meals a day--yes, breakfast and gives me lunch too. Who has it better than me? She is from a different culture (India) where women do this as a rule. Oh, don't think I don't help out--that makes both our lives easier.

being you only have one to cook for it is a LOT easier then cooking for a family of say 4, when there is more it is easier and sometimes cheaper to eat out, lot quicker to.
