Is this really a point worth killing over. In the end that is exactly what this disagreement has done for hundreds of years. What is important is God be reconciled to you, the path to that end is through Jesus, and if you become reconciled with or to God then you should start behaving more and more like Jesus did. Did occur to you who like to disagree that a more important rule is that we be in one accord and that we love each other. Now we look into a mirror darkly (so we do not understand all the connections in the Spirit world) and then will come the perfect. Start living in one accord and loving one another and stop fighting cuz it ruins our witness. Do you realize people have killed each other for century's over this question which has no affect on behavior, trust, obedience, reconciliation.
What this does is create a crack in the Church. Merchants see that crack. They fan the flames and in the end create and profit from war. This disagreement that has been discussed for basically ever, has caused peoples children to be maimed, families to be separated children to be alone to make bad decisions, and even in peace it causes people to look at lovers of God and think I do not want what they have they can not even get along with each other.
"NOW WE SEE IN A MIRROR DARKLY"---AND WE PRETEND WE SEE CLEARLY AND KILL EACH OTHER OVER A BLURRED IMAGE WE CLAIM IS CLEAR.
JESUS WEPT

The Word referred to here is Jesus Christ. He is the Word that became flesh. It just shows that Christ was there since forever and that He is God, God didn't create Him. It also explains the Trinity and Christ's deity, that He is truly God and the same as the Father.

I'm not sure what the question is but the Word is Jesus and it is saying that Jesus was with God in the beginning and Jesus is God. I believe this was before creation.

that's Right! and if you look at verse 14 you'll see the following: 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
Christ is God, and was with God, even in the begining!! Isn't this exciting?!!!

bigtime gnosticism
the book of John is SO gnostic and far out compared to Mark, Mathew and Luke
we go from a son of man- to 'son of God' to a Word being god
talk about evolution!
