Different cultures have different food. So you have to be more specific with your question.

Well, we would have beef roast with carrots, potatoes, and onions made in the crockpot. Very good! Although it does get old after a while. My husband and I don't have a ritual sunday dinner thing. Sometimes I make pizza or pasta or asian food. The only thing I might do special on a Sunday is make a dessert or cookies or something. We just do whatever!

Traditional American anyways, would most likely be roast beef or fried chicken. Sunday dinners used to be the time after church when the whole extended family would spend the day together--men talking about work/cars, kids running nuts, and women cooking and gossipping. A way to connect and support one another, and keep the Lord's day special.

Fried Chicken or Roast beef or roast chicken
Mashed potatoes
Green beans or vegetable of choice
Why? bcause they are great meals and easy to fix.
My mom would put the roast beef in the oven before we left for church and when we came home the house smelled delicious. I also remember her doing this with roast chicken. She was a single mom and during the week we ate simple meals but on Sunday she fixed a nice meal. I try to do the same.

Any kind of roast meat, Chicken, pork, or beef either roast potatoes or mash, and roast carrots.

Some nice pie like apple, cherry, pumpkin is nice for dessert too.

Why? Because it is so good and Sunday is a special day to spend with family, and a nice dinner is the perfect way to spend time with family.

I agree that meals that require a lot of preparation are probably still popular, but I think there is a trend towards having Sunday meals outside of the home for example brunches or buffets.

Some sort of take out or pizza because people are sick of cooking meals all week and need a break :)
