Let's be honest, when there are people out there who are undecided or are willing to convert, and they see Creationists who basicaly say "deny science and reason so you can believe as we do," don't you think it turns rational people off?
Most rational people will just say, "hey, these people will just believe whatever they want, weather it is true or not. Have they used the same methods to arrive at their belief in God as well?"
Are there Christians out there who see the Creationists and think, "Hey, you're not helping our cause." (This is kind of how I feel when I see 9/11 conspiricy wackos out there trying to get the Bush administration out of office. Worthy cause, bad argument).
Your thoughts?

I think you nailed everything I was thinking. You can still be Christian without taking the Bible literally. Science is the trump card.
PS: I think that CM is one of the people we are talking about. If you think that the Bible was written by God, you are very mistaken. I think this is self-evident.
It is clear you also believe that the Bible is to be taken literally. If you want to believe that, it is OK with me. If the Bible is to be taken literally, then it is clearly false concerning the age of the Earth, the universe being Geocentric, and evolution not occurring. If the stories of the Bible are open to interpretation, then how can we be sure of any interpretation?
The word of God cannot be found in the Bible. The Book was written by men. It is that simple.
Last, if you are so sure that God created the Earth, and that God created Humans, then who created God? I already see your answer: he has always been. Now that truly makes sense.
You claim that "his ways are far above ours." I have no idea what that means. What are "his ways"? You believe that the Bible is the word of God because the Bible tells you so. That's not very falsifiable.
Jonjon418, I think that the moderate Christians are the people who realize that the stories from the Bible serve to teach lessons, not truths. It doesn't mean that they side with, enable, or aid fundamentalist beliefs.

Read the book "Letter to a Christian Nation" - you could hardly make better use of your time.
YES, Creationists turn regular, relatively rational people away from Christianity - as they should. Why embrace a religion that demands that you completely shut off your brain - the brain god gave you, if you will - and accept notorious lies that would insult the intelligence of the average nonpartisan 8 year old as the Truths Of All Time?
"Moderate" Christians, although generally much cooler people to associate with than the outright whack-jobs, are suffering from a certain disconnect. They see no reason they can't have their cake and eat it too, call themselves "christian" and yet accept the advances in human knowledge that have occured in the last 2000 years as valid - but only because they haven't carried their beliefs through to their logical conclusions. Not only that, but they function as "enablers" for the real whack jobs to advance their agenda. I know plenty of people who aren't quite religiously insane but nonetheless "see no harm" in teaching creationism (or "intelligent design") in science class, and can't be convinced that this is no more appropriate than inserting Wright's coefficient of relationship in the Lord's Prayer.

I think they do contribute a bit. Many Creationists tend to get a little hot-headed when the subject arises. They can be very stubborn and refuse to just hear-out the other side. They are put on the defensive and turn into little zealots. They just want to be right.
Hope this helps.

Those who are truly Christian and believe in the Lord, believe in Creation. To do otherwise is to call God a liar! And on top of that all of Creation speaks of His Glory. Why men can believe it takes intelligent design to build all man has, yet none to create a man which man cannot do is total blindness and foolishness. As the Bible says: "Professing themselves to be wise they became fools." Why do you set up God to be limited to what man is able to do, His ways are so far above ours.

utilising your way of thinking, there are 2 diverse paths you're asking of creationists: a million) Lie, do no longer tell the actuality approximately what you think. 2) do no longer tell them the style you sense approximately creation till you have gotten them to have self belief each and every thing else. the two way, that may no longer straightforward. you are able to desire to no longer consider what they say yet a minimum of provide them credit for telling what they suspect.

No. I think they are helping the cause-the more people are aware of life and its possibilities the more one is inclined to THINK!

Interesting. I am a creationist and I do not deny science or reason. Moreover, I am not a conspiracy theorist either. ;-)
