My first question would be, WHY do you want to breed your border collie--is it a conformation champion, have you had its hips, eyes, etc. checked, and have you sold the pups BEFORE you do so? In todays world, it is totally senseless to breed a dog when there all already so many without homes. Do your research and make sure that you have a great dog that really deserves to pass on its genes, not just because you want to!

No reputable breeder of Border Collies will allow someone to breed a PET quality ***** to their male. Just not gonna happen. PERIOD.
A reputable breeder who knows their bloodlines and does all the OFA. CERF, thyroid and cardia checks.
Before you go off and breed a PET quality dog to produce more PET quality dogs, take a real good look at how many Border Collies are homeless.

i would advise if you are trying to breed the best possible dogs..to go out of your way and find a dog that matches your girl. Eg markings..temperament..physique. All these should compliment your Bi tch..i wouldn't just stick to a local breeder..if you are really serious about it..if you are in britain go to the champ dogs site. You can find border collies under the list of pastoral breed..they should have listings of all the stud dogs available. This is your best bet. If you are in america..you couls get the list by ringing the AKC. They shouold have a list of all registered stud dogs for that breed. I wish you luck

Actually MAS there is NO shortage of working dogs. Exactly the opposite actually with many many hundreds of ex working collies being thrown out, dumped, placed in rescue centres up and down the country. Do a google for wiccaways which is only one of many rescue centres who take in unwanted border collies.

First of all if you love your dog you wont breed her it is not healthy for the animal but if you are like the rest of those people and just want to breed for money hungry reasons please at least care enough for your dog to make her comfortable as well as good home s for the pups... this world is over populated as it is with people and animals resulting in many sufferings and deaths ..just remember that as you allow yet 6-8 more pups into this world care about your pet and fix her

Is your collie from working strain, if so try asking a local farmer if they would be interested in putting one of their dogs to stud. There is a severe shortage of working dogs, and you should have no problem getting homes for the pups.
As for shortage I mean up in my area NE Scotland. We have had 3 farmers asking us if we are putting our collie to stud as she is of workng strain and all they EX-Working dogs in our area are very well looked after

At dog shows. That is where good breeders hang out. I do not think any good breeders are going to want to breed to your dog. Unless it is a show quality dog from their lines, they would want noting to do with it. You will be stuck with other backyard breeders.

If you are wanting to have registered puppies
(your dog would have to be registered) and you are in the US, try the American Kennel Club:
