There is no life after death. You are correct. There would be no purpose in there being life after death.

Great question! The best answer that I can think of to give you is to recommend that you read "Oahspe", the new Bible, given to the world in 1882, by a Spiritualist medium. There are other books available from Health Research that could help with this question too, like "A Wanderer in the Spirit Lands" by Franchezzo.
You might try ebay for a copy of "Oahspe", if that intrigues you

The concept of time, a day, is not relevant to a spirit. They exist joined in energy, peace and harmony.
Many people who have lived good lives have been visited by spirits usually in the form of a warning of something bad about to happen. This usually occurs in a relaxed state. The people who have experienced these visits usually don't like to talk about them for obvious reasons.

That's a question that can't be totally 100% answered. I know that many of them keep watch over us. Many teach those who did not have the gospel of Christ in their lives his teachings so they may have it in death. I believe in angels, and I believe that they have seperate jobs that they must attend to. Though at the same time, there's not many scriptures that talk of what angels do. I do know they minister unto us if it needs be that we be ministered unto. This is a great question, but it's one of those that we'll most likely wonder about until the day we die. Good thing it's not all that neccessary to our earthly progression huh?

I think that maybe, our spirits, what gives us life, is a small part of God's spirit because the Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So maybe when we die our spirit seeks to go back home and rejoin the spirit that it came from originally.

NOTHING!! When God blew breath into Adams nose it was the breath of life, giving Adam a spirit. When we die our spirit ceases, becomes breath again and goes back to God to await Jesus' Glorious return. At that time all will rise (our spirit will unite with our bodies) and we will be judged according to our works good or bad.

Time in the spirit world is perceived differently from our world.
On the Day of the Arising (Day of Judgment), people who have died long ago in the past, and have become physically resurrected, are going to feel that they have been "asleep" for several days only, but in reality, they would've been dead for thousands of years.
