it doesn't matter how old they are....they are going to try it at least once. as long as you are watching her, a little bit of sand isn't going to hurt her. just keep telling her "no" and that it is "yucky" and make yucky faces. i would advise, however, you go to a kid's store and buy special sand for her play set, don't use beach sand whether its filtered or not. PS. i have a 2 year old and she has put sand in her mouth but stopped after a few times.

Your baby can play in her sand box now and have fun doing so. What you Must not do, is to leave her unsupervised. Your baby might not be able to communicate with you right now, but she does understand if you tell her not to put the sand in her mouth. This will have to be repeated several times, but you will also want to let her know why it is not good for her to put sand in her mouth. Now, babies at this this stage are very adventurous and want to know and investigate everything. speak to her intelligently and don't attempt to slap her hand should she decide to put a little sand in her mouth.

It's fine! Yes, she might put a little in her mouth--but being from the beach, it probably tastes like salt water and one taste will be enough for her to know it's gross. If she puts it in her mouth then grab her hand and say "No no...yucky" and she'll stop. It's fine for her to play with--quit worrying! Blessings :-)

Let her play with it now... She can not hurt herself with sand. If she tries to take a bite, empty her hand and tell her no... don't eat the sand. You will have to repeatedly do this but she will learn, while she is playing.

at thirteen months she isn't old enough to know not to put it in her mouth, they even put sand in their mouths a two ,so unless you are going to watch her every minute she's in the sand then dont put her in it.
