Actually mayonaise is made from several ingredients, the primary one of which is oil. The white appearance of mayonaise is from slowly drizzling oil into a blender where the high speed blades whip air into the oil mixture causing it to turn white. There are some great recipes out there for making homemade mayo. If you could be poisoned by it, it would be illegal to sell it in stores as food. I make a steamed vegetable and pasta dish with all tossed with mayo and eat it hot. Heating it won't make you sick and it is very tasty.

If you are stuck at home and have no way to the doctors office the best thing for you to do is to drink plenty of fluids and refrain from eating any oily food for 24hrs.. do not take imodium or loperamide or anything that will suppress your bowel movements. you need to pass whatever bacteria is making you sick. but if this continues after a day, you must get to the doctor or clinic to be checked out -- you do not want to become dehydrated... a whole other slew of problems will then arise. this sounds like a mild case of food poisoning since you aren't vomiting. i hope you feel better soon!

I don't think so. My friend does it all the time. The only way to get sick is to leave something with mayonaise in it out too long.

No....Take a look at the famous recipe "Chicken Devine" it has mayo and no one ever died from it. Mayo heats up just fine. Don't worry.

For many years now, mayo producers have added vinegar to prevent illness problems. It should not be a problem unless it is homemade mayo and they did not add vinegar.
