When everyone knows roast potatoes are superior and hardly anyone will touch a boiled potato when roasties are on offer!

Look, my grandparents served both boiled and roast and so did their grandparents and theirs before them. I agree that roasties are far superior but if we start questioning the wisdom of the old-folk then the Empire is done for - and would you want that on your conscience?

Well, for one thing it depends on the type of potato used for the 'boiled' choice. Secondly, having two types gives a choice anyway (you don't _have_ to have the boiled ones!). Finally, even in a 'typical' roast lunch/dinner both are not always served.

For variety and choice..and also to fill you up, along with the Yorkshire pud, because when this form of roast dinner came about very few people could afford meat.

They never were in our house. It was always roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.
