you shouldnt be having any issues whatsoever regarding backward compatibility...

in any case MS WORD would prompt you to download additional component for reading old documets IF IT EXPERIENCES ISSUES READING THEM... install those add-ons

What version of MS Office were the files created with?

Office 2003 should be backwards compatible, though that's the risk we run in using proprietary software/file formats; if Microsoft chooses to discontinue support for older formats, your data is lost.

Consider www.openoffice.org - an open source Office Suite that fully supports the Open Document Format (ODF). It should also be able to open your past Word documents. Oh, and it's free, and used around the world!

First, how old are your documents you are trying to open and by what processor were made? Second, Word Office 2003 should be able to open them up automatically if they were made by a previews version of Word or a window should open up to give you the chance to open them with "Open With." Furthermore, while you are on Word, go to help and look in there how to open and/or convert old documents. Also, Go to Microsoft updates and see if there are any Office 2003 updates you need to down load and see if that would help. Another thing that you could do is to go to Microsoft's Word Groups and put your question to them; they are supposed to be the experts.

Good luck

You shouldn't be having any issues at all with MS Office. It is backwards compatible.

What is the error message you are getting when you try to open a document?

What was the version of MS Office that you created the document in?

Microsoft workplace 2007 and 2010 use a diverse record type for saving pages than 2003, so which you will no longer have the skill to open 2007 and 2010 information in 2003. there's a unfastened open source and legal application referred to as libreoffice that i take advantage of on my computer and that's in a position to open 2007 and 2010 information.
