I like sweeter wines, myself. Best bet is to look for "dessert wines at a local beverage store. Try a muscat (also called moscato or muscatel) which is a sweet wine made with over-ripe grapes (half-dried rasins, really), and can be either red or white, and often has a very strong fruitiness. Also really great are framboise (a wine made with raspberries instead of grapes!), Essencia and Elisium (not sure the grape type, but both are form the same vintner and fabulous). Less sweet, but still quite good, are gewurtztraminer (shortened generally to a slang gewurtz), a riesling, and a viognier, a mildly sweet, apricot-y French white. You can also sample through the various fortified wines, like Port and Sherry. Very expensive but sooooo worth it are the ice wines, made with grapes that have frozen on the vine before harvest.
These are generally bottled in smaller quantities thatn regular wines, but are also higher in alcohol conent and stronger in flavors. Best drunk in sips like an aperitif or liquer.

I would say that overall there are more sweet red wines than white wine. Usually white wines are dry to the taste.

Try a Rose wine. Turning leaf makes an excellent white zinfendel. It is pink and has a light sweet taste.

Mostly red are for pasta and meats.
White are for fish and chicken.
Then there are some sweet table wines for the most part they will say sparkling or be a blush. These are sweet.
But my favorite is champagne. It's the sweetest Martini and Rosti - Asti is the best it is from Italy. And its hard to top Italian wines.

If you are new to wine... I recommend these two reds:

Parducci Pinot Noir

La Cream Pinot Noir

Both are relatively inexpensive as well ($13 - $15)
