yeah, cause right now you are just friends. If you wanna be with him then take the plunge and just ask him out, see how he feels about you. Otherwise you'll get hurt when you see him with someone else. If he says no, then move on, and just value the friendship that you'll still have, might be a little awkward at first, but don't put too much pressure on it, and you'll both get past that, especially if you are best friends. If he says yes, he might have stronger feelings for you then you think, and you two could hit it off, and are maybe meant to be together. There are a number of possibilities for where this could go, both positive and negative, but the only way to find out is to ask him. My best friend had strong feelings for me, but I didn't want to chance it that I would loose him as a friend, and we're still just best friends. I do love him, but just as my best friend. Go for it though, you've got nothing to loose, and you don't wanna have any regrets.

Makes sense to me. "Relationships" - if I understand your use of the term - are just friendships with some added nakedness.

If you like someone as a friend, appreciate their beliefs and values, way of being, etc. AND want to get naked with them...

Next question is: Do they reciprocate, and how do I let them know without ruining the friendship? Thoughts on that: If the friendship is too fragile to handle honesty/disclosure of such feelings, maybe it's not worth protecting!

The best and more lasting relationships are based in friendship so yes it is perfect if he loves you too. It does not get any better than that.
