Tough question.
I am atheist.
I do not think that religion is an enemy to the world.
I think that often, people believe too much in the teachings of Christianity, Islam, and any other religion.
Though I deplore communism, I think that Marx was right when he said, "Religion is th Opiate of the mases."
But still, ignorance is bliss. I think that most people are not ready to be "unplugged".
I think that blind faith often has held back education and science (ie. creationism vs. evolution).
I think that religion offers so many humanitarian programs that it is also hard to deny it's benefits.
I think that the biggest problem with religion is extremism. I think the Fundamentalist Christians who wonder how Fundamentalist Muslims believe so blindly in Allah should look in the mirror, and ask themselves the same Question. Also vice versa.
I think that the change could take place slowly, and people still need to understand that the belief in God is personal, and that the teachings of religion can no longer be taken for ultimate truth.
People need to understand that a life without religion doesn't have to be fruitless.
Pushing a button that would eliminate religion all together would cause far more problems than those associated with religion.
It would have to take place slowly. You can't change thousands of years of Belief in a single moment. I think moderation and the elimination of extremism and blind faith is the first step.

Nah, the problems religions create are based on abusing religion to lead many by sanctifying their prejudices while creating an illusion that one is right while other is wrong (be it religion, culture, sexual orientation, politics, etc).
Ppl who need to believe in something to rationalize their existence would just find something else with similar underpinnings. The end game would still be the same - no impact on those whose spirituality is not defined by other's rules, a way to abdicate personal responsiblity for some, something to blindly follow for many, and a way to manipulate the masses for those seeking power.

I would definitely be the first to press the button again and again. All of the religions are corrupt, close-minded, war mongering, thieving, abusive, and prejudiced. The world would be such a more peaceful place without these hypocritical organisations

I could only wish to have one true religion but never to eradicate them all. I believe there is one source of life that has given us the intelligence to oversee the progress and development of the earth. Having so many religions had made it very confusing to the world when each started to claim monopoly of One true God. It should not have happened that way. The idea should have been that each one is a choice of road to travel through in order to find his own niche and be able to reach his destiny by his own free will.
Like a tree that has one trunk, it has so many branches that point towards the heaven and yields a lots of fruits for the nourishment of birds and men. Man still needs to realize his origin not in the way of someone controlling his life but in the way of guiding him through the right paths until he gets to the point of going back to the source of life at the end of the road.

No, I don't want them eradicated by force. I wish people walked away freely, once they realised how religions are messing with their minds.

NO--somewhere in this world is a single mother who is working three jobs and still not making ends meet, and her ex-husband who used to beat the piss out of her on a daily basis and hospitalized her three times just got out of prison and he's been calling her and threatening to kill her and hurt her kids--and her religion is the only thing she has to cling to--to keep her strong--to keep her from having a complete mental collapse
try to think of everybody, not just yourself, please

That would be a good idea...eliminating all the religion based conflict in the world, which is substantial.
But, I'm afraid it would all just start again. Man knowledge of God is encoded in our DNA.

A lot of people need religion just to make it through the day. Unless Prozac was free to all...I really don't know.

Don't need to as it will happen, anyway. God said that the nations of the earth would turn and devour Babylon (organized religion), so just wait for it.

yes, because people who belong to religions are hypocrites. about 3 months ago I was coming down my block and lots of people were surrounding these police cars. One of my neighbors was crying and her husband looked distressed. I found out later that a church member who belongs to the church across the street hit my neighbor in the face with her shoe. The churchlady's husband offered her a knife to cut my neighbor with. That's just one of many amazin' stories of the religious.
