The original idea of "separation of church and state" was NOT intended to allow the government to control things and remove all aspects of religion from public life as they are doing now, it was intended to NOT allow the government to control religion and/or force Americans to be of one religion.
America was created as a Christian Nation but we welcomed all who wanted to come and welcomed the diversity. Things where going good for about 190 years along those lines until some liberal government officials decided they could do better and perverted the meaning of the separation statement.
Now we have kids shooting kids, corrupt company CEO's and VERY corrupt government officials, people sue over the most minor things, the parties spend more time trying to make the other look bad than they do trying to help Americans, a man's word is no good any more......
I'll stop here....I hope you get my point

Because facts should be taught in public schools, not beliefs. Besides, just what religious school would you send atheist children too? Or poor children? How many buddhist schools have you seen in the US? Wiccan schools? Teach religion at home and church. Is the church not doing a good enough job for you? Do you not understand your own beliefs, which would be the reason you can't teach your own children, I assume?

Separation of Church and State was first a Christian concept. So really, why all the fuss?

because we pay for the public schools. putting religion in school is a state establishment of religion. unless you are going to put all religions in school , which would bankrupt the system. it cannot be done.
state sponsored religion would make the differances between us greater and lead to more religious discrimination. and would make our schools targets for terrorists looking to hit a religious institution.

My parents never fussed about anything like that, and neither do I. I went to private Catholic schools my whole life.

Oh, but they'd like the church to be able to mess with ALL people. For them it's not enough to brainwash their own people. They're hungry for more brains to wash.
NB: I'm just talking of THOSE fundamentalist Christians. NOT of all Christians as a whole, okay?
