I've been naughtly lately, I was on holiday & gained quite abit of weight, what with the booze & junk food so I'm starting a diet tomorrow. The only problem is, I'm due a period this week too & I've been told that you shouldn't start a diet when you're due a period because you don't lose weight.
It won't be a fad diet eiether, they're not my thing, just a normal eat healthy, excercise more thing...I just don't want to put all my effort into it, then my period ruins it.
Anybody any advice?

A lot of people look at things in the terms of "lose weight / can't lose weight"
You have the right idea when you say that oyu want to change to live a healthy lifestyle.
Though you should not start a "diet" around your period (has nothing to do with weight loss) there is never a bad time to begin eating healthy and making healthy choices.
The best thing to do is change one thing at a time.
The first things you should do is to cut out soft drinks, artificial sweeteners and hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils. Start with one or all three- Just cutting out soft drinks will get you on the road to losing weight and that is a great thing to cut out -especially around the time of your period as your body is already losing precious vitamins and minerals at a faster rate at this time and soft drinks will only suck them out of you that much faster. You will notice with just these three steps and a consistant exercise routine that includes cardio and strength training you will shed the weight and feel a lot more energetic and healthier.
Other things you can do that will be beneficial around your period is:
cut your sugar intake
increase your healthy fats (omega 3 fatty acids from cod liver oil, fish, real butter - not margerine, avacados, etc)
increase your water intake
eat fruits and nuts for snacks instead of candy or chips

Your period wont ruin a diet. You will have water weight gain during your period which will make you a little heavier than usual 3 to 5lbs. Eating healthier during your period will actually help you with cramps bloating irritability etc. So Start today!

The best time to start is after your period, but remember, the sooner you start, the better, by the time your period is over, youll almost be used to the healthy way of eating. TIP: avos and nuts(not peanuts) help control your estrogen and progesterone levels, that way youll get less cravings and believe it or not the period will be less painfull.
Good luck girl

Being on your period only causes water rentention. It may add up to 5 pounds or so but since it's only water weight, it's not a big deal. Just make sure you get AT LEAST eight 8ounce glasses of water everyday which helps combat water weight.
