Well I think this could be for anyone i guess. When people cross their arms and not smile a lot, does that send a leave me alone vibe even if you don't mean to especially when out with friends?

it could mean that because it is a guarded position. have u tried to pull the person into the conversation? They may not like the topic or they may be thinking about other things at the time. Try to pull them in and see how it goes. I would also suggest to them to the side when u are alone and tell them they look a little reserved and ask why. They will probably tell u what is going on with them.

I would say yes it does. Some could also perceive it as the person doing this is self conscious.

not always. ive sat in with a group of people and had my arms crossed and my mood was fine.Not smiling
