when did they know that for halloween they dress up. and for christmas we have santa and a tree and all that.

About 2-3... The younger ones learned a bit earlier than the oldest as they had an older child to give them the scoop...
Although I was able to convince them until age 5 that when the ball dropped in New York on New Years, it was midnight even though we live on the west coast.... Midnight ( :D ) bang a few pots and pans scream Happy New Years!!!!! and off to bed by 10 pm..... Why did I think teaching them how to tell time was a good idea??? LOL

My son was 2 1/2 this summer when he finally started grasping the concept. We would walk into a store and he'd want something EVERY time and I began to tell him that we would make birthday and Christmas lists and now he is really excited for those holidays. Last Christmas we were unprepared for him to just tear through all of his gifts with no expression...he had no clue and was too young to understand what some of the toys even were.

2 yrs old.
At age 1, she didnt care.
At age 2, she knew about holidays but didnt understand them very much.
At age 3, she wanted a Christmas tree and decorations. She learned what candy was from Halloween and asked for what she wanted to dress as.
Now at age 4, she asks for decorations and knows all about dressing up and birthday parties including birthday party theme.

My son is two. He doesn't really understand Halloween. But he nows birthdays are cake and presants. And he knows Christmas is Santa Claus.

My kids were around 2-3 years old. Every child is different, it might take some kids to know at 2 or others when their 5.

My 5 and 7 year old know about the holidays.. but still have no real concept of timing. So they order, time/month between they are clueless.
