The admonishments against homosexuality were part of the "Holiness Code" which has been done away with. The bits about food being an abomination have, I've heard, also been done away with. So hey... we're all free to be gay AND seafood lovers!

Most of the old testament laws were based on routine and cleanliness. For example, it was a sin not to wash your hands before you ate. Why would that be wrong? Well, things like hepatitis maybe. If you had sex you weren't allowed to be around people for an entire day. Because sex is wrong? No, because people could get sick and the whole village/population could be wiped out.
In some cultures (like, amongst hedonists) people were homosexual. Ancient greece. Sodom and Gammorah. etc. etc.
The reasons that I can come up with as to why homosexuality is bad is: not because two people of the same sex couldn't love each other. Because it ends life. Two men or two women can not have a child. Thus it prevents life. Another reason: disease. Sodomy is pretty disgusting. Sodomy (whether between a man and a man or a man and a woman) was/is also forbidden. Do you think you're more or less likely to get sick sticking your sexual member into an anal cavity...where fecal matter dwells.
The fact of the matter its, amongst the surviving ruling class, these are the people who lived. The ones who didn't, well they don't exist anymore do they? They are just in history books. Then people play around and say, "ooh, I'm gonna be _____". Yet they don't always truly understand.

People that are unaware of a law, do not know they are breaking it. The Ten Commandments and the Levitical Law was given to the Israelites. So, abominations of all sorts were only considered such by those to whom the Law was given.
Clearly, homosexuality was not an abomination to those that lived in Sodom, Gomorah, and the other three cities in the Plain of Siddim. They were heathen and it was part of their culture.
But God will still judge them for it. Romans 1:18 and on.

Remember that all these anti-homosexuality rules were created at a time when the world was UNDER populated, not over-populated. A Jewish man was expected to "do his duty" and marry young, have as many children as he could support, and increase the tribe. The same was true of other religions, for similar reasons. This is the main reason the Catholics have had such a hard time accepting birth control; they wanted their numbers to increase.
Now we have a vastly overpopulated world, and there's no reason to pressure people who are not interested to have children. Keep that in mind when interpreting concepts that go back thousands of years.

In the old testament, there is a list of things that God does not like and considers them perversion.Homosexuality is one of them. So I guess the answer is it is an abomination everywhere and still is.

It's for everyone normal... I'm christian... and I think it's an abomination...
Romans 1:24-32 "24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

The Torah contains laws just for Jews, such as not eating shrimp, but also laws for all mandkind (Jews and Gentiles): The Laws of Noah. One of the 7 Noahide laws deals with sexuality.

1st Corinthians 6:9
that is NEW TESTAMENT
Gee.......I wish people would learn to read before posting things they have no clue about
This passage deals with the sin of homosexuality ( among others) so it isn't an "Old Testament" thing exclusively
A sin is a sin no matter how much you want it to be "not a sin" and no matter how many people say it isn't......it is still is.
