RLS is a real disorder that can be helped. First you should go see your personal Doctor, if you don't have one - get one. They can prescribe medicine to help. When your body gets out of balance in nutrients (and such) and you're ways of dealing with life's ups and downs mentally throw your body's chemical balance out of whack. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with you mentally, these new medical issues that have come up in the last 20 yrs are just our body's way of handling life's daily stresses. We can't all get ulcers from stress. See your Dr. and take time to relax or meditate daily, 10 min. a day can work wonders. Try putting your legs up over the back of the sofa laying with your back on the seat cushions, this will help the circulation in your legs too.

I have found since taking Neurontin which is used for mild epilepsy and neuorpathic pain, that I don't have the massive ticks or restless legs. It was prescribed for neck and shoulder pain, so it was a nice side effect for a change.
I to have to get up and walk around for about ten minutes, or give my legs a massage would help. The other thing I noticed was the more exhausted I was the worse the restless legs would be. So I would try to have a bath with a little lavender and chamomile oils added to the bath. Mix the oils with a little milk or good quality massage oil, as some oils can burn the skin.

Try some Tylenol PM or Advil PM about an hour before bed. Deep knee bends help or walking up and down the stairs a few times. If all else fails see your doctor there is a new medication that came out not long ago for restless leg, my cousin takes it she says it works great, she has no more problems. Hope this helps, its a horrible feeling.

I get this too. Fortunately not as bad as some people, but when I do get it, it drives me mad. It's no good trying hard not to move your legs, it just makes it worse and they'll kick out anyway. I found the link below very helpful. It's known as Ekbom Syndrome (nice to know it has a name and it's not just your imagination!). I tend to get it when I'm very tired, or my legs are too hot. I find that if I go sit on the loo for 5 minutes (don't laugh!) it sometimes eases it - no bloody idea why, but who cares lol. If not, I take 2 co-proxamol (currently being taken off the market, I know, but I still get it on repeat prescription for a back injury) and it does take it away. Have a look at the link below. Hope it helps. Good Luck!
Note to Spongeworthy-us's - tis sometimes better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them right.

I'm also a restless leg sufferer, and it just about drives me to the brink of insanity!! I'll even sometimes get it in my arms at the same time...even worse!!! Thank goodness I don't get it too often, but when I do, I take Nu-Alprazolam. My symptoms feel like bugs crawling under my skin, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to stay still!!
There is also a drug specifically for Restless Leg Syndrome, it's called Requip.
Good luck!!

Hi! don't think I'm being cheeky, but if by chance you are overweight, you need to take more exercise. Any activity which improves circulation should help. I had terrible rls when I was pregnant and I eased it slightly by doing a stretching routine as if I'd been working out. It's less unpleasant than punching yourself, hon. If you haven't already, ask your GP in case it's a trapped nerve or something- mine went away as soon as the baby was born, i think it was the way he was lying. I hope you don't suffer from this 24/7, it's unbearable. :)

Yes, got it a lot while I was on a diet, feels like a thousand electrodes are attached to your leg that are being charged at random. I was advised to take tonic water and add bananas to my diet, but to be honest they didn't work for me, and the symptoms only stopped when I gave up the diet. Good Luck.

If by restless leg syndrome you mean you cannot stop moving your legs, don't worry about it, I have the same problem, it doesn't really bother me but it seems to bother my friends and family, They're always telling me to stop fidgetting, and I'm like "I can't help it.."
