My girlfriend sometimes gets a rash around her neck when she wears a necklace. The first time it was a necklace made of wood, the next time, the necklace was made of metal. The same type of rash is caused. I realize to avoid getting the rash, she could simply avoid wearing a necklace, but does anyone have any idea what might be causing this reaction, or whether it is a sign of something more serious?

I agree, it is probably a nickle allergy, if she still wants to wear the offending jewelry tell her to try putting clear fingernail polish on the part that touches her skin, it is not a cure but it works.

I get it sometimes also, I heard it is a nickel allergy. Some, even gold jewelry does have some nickel, look for jewelry with bisel, not sure how to spell it. I once had a watch I was allergic to and sometimes if I wear a belt and the buckle rubs on my stomach I get a rash there.

More than likely she has allergies. Many people are allergic to many different trees. Also I have an allergy to gold and many metals. I can't wear jewelery because of it. Its a bad allergy to have but its is probably the culprit. she should see an allergist. I would say a dermatologist but they would probably send her to an allergist anyhow.
good luck

It's probably an allergy, though the wood one is a little weird.

She should look for pure metals, which are hypoallergenic. No less than 14k gold, surgical steel, niobium, titanium, sterling silver, etc...

Good luck.

Allergy to metals that are part of the alloy of metals in the bracelet. Allergy to nickel and to copper are fairly common in normal people.
