Let's see....

I'd decide where I want to go ... city to city, then I'd try and arrange to have a booking be it a club or a bar. So the travel is consecutive. There are some very simple band contracts online that you can use.

Build in some free time into your schedule too.

You might want to design some flyers that can be printed from your website and samples of your music too. Maybe even a short video edited in iMovie.

If you have any experience at all, maybe the places you've played will vouch for you or the owners might even know some people in those other towns.

Might consider a small 'tech rider', minimum stage size - that sort of thing. I've seen some nutty tech riders, but you are not there yet.

Seriously -- if you can, document your shows! Just hand the video camera and tripod to the lights guy.

Do you have a band? Gonna travel by bus? Is there a 'show' involved? Roadies? Gimmicks? Outfits? Have a lighting designer, sound mixer?

Some bands arrange for the presenter to have a sound and lighting system and the band just shows up with the instruments -- but some bands are what is called "self contained."

Use your web site a lot -- post your Itinerary, Dates, Costs, Lyrics, Maps, anything you can think of -- even if it's just the phone numbers of the music store in each town for promotion and that broken g-string.

Consider tapping the college scene. If they won't produce you perhaps the radio station will interview you.

Cart about plenty of CD's to sell and give away. If you can afford it: have some swag. Even if it's a cheap lanyard with your name on it -- gift giving to the local crew is huge. Tee shirts and hats are pretty common for big name bands. Back stage passes? Even if you don't need them, some ppl would love to stick your band's name on their thigh or sleeve at the club.

Keep it fun.
Stay sober.
Join or invite the local bands to jam -- make friends.
Keep it in your pants -- this ain't the 80's.

Be a professional - thank everyone for a good show, follow up on phone calls, keep promises (like a copy of last night's show), smile and be confident, remember names, respect.

Rock on!

Yes, the best idea will be to get phone numbers of places you might be able to perform.

Contact the places you want to play and get a date from them that fits your schedule for your tour. Most will want a promo kit or something from you and you will have to get that to them so that they have a chance to review it and you and then they will let you know if they will have you play in their establishment. This takes time so you need a few months before your tour to get it all arranged. If you don't have a promo kit or something like that with a sample of your music, then you need to get yourself one.
