I've been thinking of taking a year off from school before my freshmen year in college. Maybe teach English in prague or something like that. But I'm noticing that most jobs require TEFL cetificates, and I'm wondering if that's something I really want to invest in, because it is expensive.

Also,I'm just generally wondering if taking a year off and working in europe { I'm from the U.S} is a good idea.

No don't do it. You have all your life to do all the travel and discovering you wish. Finish your school, and you will see the world in much wider, wiser eyes when you finish school. But, of course that is still up to you in the end.

I think it is, but it's not for everyone. I took a year off (several, actually) because after High School I was generally burned out. I went to college after my year off, and still didn't have the drive to be there. So I took another two years off and when I went back, I was so determined to finish that I didn't let anything stand in my way. I wanted it more, and I was mature enough to handle the stress that college can sometimes give. I'm glad I took time off, because it showed me how badly I wanted a college education.

Don't do it.

Finish your education, then take the year off.

Trust me.
