Actually yes and no.
The act of having hair wet/cold is not going to make you sick.
However, if your body is struggling to get your core temperature back to 98.6 constantly it produces stress on the whole body.
This includes the immune system. Therefore, your body is now more succeptable to become ill if exposed to pathogens that cause illness, more so than if you were at a comfortable temperature.
Most of our body heat is lost through the head.

I happen to agree with you. Sore throats and colds come from a viral infection. It is possible that you contacted something in the 'city', because it is like you say, full of germs and viruses. Why do you go to sleep with a wet head, anyway? Doesn't that make your hair weird the next day? (Not to mention, you get sick, too) If I were you, I'd shower in the morning, and blow my hair dry before leaving the house. This way your mom doesn't have to worry AND your health may be better for it, who knows? Then everyone wins!

no, I have been outside with my hair wet many times in the winter when I was growing up. My hair would freeze but I never got sick.

No, that is a myth. Being cold won't give you a cold. Viruses and germs can. I have been through many -30 winters in Canada. I rarely get sick in Winter.
