Just yesterday someone said i sound like a french man. Now, another person is saying i sound like a jamaican. I really want to eradicate this awkward accent and sound like an english man. How can i change this horrible accent of mine? I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

I agree that accents are sexy. But if you're unhappy with it, try listening to others and "parroting" their accents. Everyone on earth has an accent, if you really think about it. Hey, if you know French or Jamaican, make them feel uncomfy by speaking in another language, lol.

you just have to take it. Pick your battles - the ones you can win - and crush your persecutors - make an example of them so that others realize that hurting you will come at a cost. I had to lose my english accent as my parents moved me to canada when I was 10 and I got in alot of fights about it for years. be proud of yourself but don't brag - I had to take the same for years here in canada. I did not have a loud canadian EH accent but a realy british accent. Just assert yourself too and say well I am an immigrant what do you expect- they wont know what to say about that . ha . When I come back to england I will have to go through the same thing as you as now I have a canadian accent and it will take a few months for my native english to come out again and for the canadian accent to go away for good. Some girls like the accents but its little solice when you do battle against the hoards of locals to be accepted everyday. Just watch the english shows and copy their accents repeat them. My accent always starts to come back after I watch some british telivision shows

I just love a man with an accent. I just recently came back from Jamaica and as soon as a Jamaican man opened his mouth I was ready to take my panties off, whooooo, I just had a flashback!! Don't change for nothing or no one. Embrace who you are and love each and every thing about you. Hope this helps.

Get some english on tape, stand in front of a mirror and practice!
But I think accents are cool and you shouldn't worry what other people think!

dont change it at all, accents are unique in this country and it makes you an indivual. If it really bugs you that bad go see a speech pathogist or go take an english class or buy some tapes or a CD, it'll help you on pronounciation.

the best way is keep listening songs,news, watching movies which are in the accent you want to adopt,
more over if you can make friendship with a English person, that will improve your ability in days.

If you want to get rid of it, just start practicing speaking with an American accent instead... actors have to do it all the time to learn a new accent for roles in movies.

lol.. i have same problem.. i have russian accent n every1 is like omg i love yur accent.. but i dont like it.. well.. thing yu can do is go 2 speech therapist they might help yu n dont listen 2 ppl that say yu should leave it. if Yu dont like it, get rid of it :D
