This pup is old enough to be eating puppy chow. They are weaned at 6-8 weeks old and typically go to their new homes at 8-12 weeks. Please don't feed the pup cow's milk. They have a hard time digesting it (just like cats) and it will cause an upset tummy and diarrhea. If the pup doesn't eat the solid food very well, you can mix it with a little water or with a puppy milk replacer until the pup is ready for hard food.

3 months is not too young, most cats and dogs are weaned by 6 - 8 weeks. Your friend messed up by giving the puppy milk, milk is really bad for puppies and even kittens. The puppy needs to be eating puppy food, like Purina Puppy Chow. If your friend does not know how to take care of a dog then she should get some advise from a vet or have someone come into her home to show her how to care for it. The puppy does not need puppy formula either, a good puppy food will provide all of the nutrients he needs, and it's softer so it's easier on those puppy teeth. After the puppy is a year old he can switch to adult dog food.

At 3 months old the pup should be fed a good quality dry puppy food and just water to drink. He has all his puppy teeth and shouldn't have a problem with it! Most puppies start to eat solid foods at 5 weeks of age.

A dog can leave it's mother at 4 weeks old. Cows milk is not that good for puppies so I would not feed it that. Try solid food with a little water on it if it has trouble chewing the food. Also, you might want to take it to the vet to make sure that there are no internal parasites like hook worms. Also the puppy will need his distemper, parvo, lepto, and carona vaccine sometime soon.

3 months is old enough to drink water and eat solid food. A good puppy formula will have all the vitamins the pup needs.

Actually a veterinarian can answer it over the phone, only after they see the dog. The dog could be allergic to cows milk, many are...getting sick was the first clue.
The SPCA will also give advice on when to provide "puppy food" previously known as puppy chow, which is dry food.
Dry food has the recommendations on the puppy food bag as far as amount and age. Dry food is better for their teeth formation also.

When my dog had 10 puppies, I gave them cereal after they were weaned from their mother. Goats milk was easier on them than cows milk. I also gave them part cereal (baby) and A little cooked beef liver that I cut up and shreaded in my blender....mixed everything....and they loved it. The cooked liver made them happy & healthy, and it was cheap to add after they stopped nursing , and I started this supplement when they were about 3-4 weeks AFTER THE VETERINARIAN saw them and recommended it.

Good luck!

At 3 months no. It is ok for the puppy to be away from the mother from 8 weeks. And the puppy should be eating puppy food. We have a puppy laborador, now a year old. You can get complete puppy food in dry form, and should be measured out according to age/ weight. No milk. It is bad for them.

Plenty of water and occasional puppy treats.

Yes. Dogs are weaned at 8 weeks old. I would still soften the food with warm water if it's dry food. Get a puppy formula of canned & dry food until at least 1 year old, but it doesn't need milk anymore.

at 3 months old the pup is more than old enough to be away from its mother. it doesnt need to have milk water will be fine. as for solid foods it should have been weaned at 3 to 4weeks old. so normal puppy food whether its meat or dry is fine or a little bit of both.

I fear for the puppy if your friend is so ignorant of dog care. Feed him puppy food and water only. Puppies can eat solid food within a month of birth.
