I don't think the issue was so much that it was 'anti-establishment', it was that it stifled free speech. I found in my own college days that the most radical, entitlement oriented people for being able to speak their own mind through whatever means, be it burning flags or whatever, were precisely the ones who felt it was ok to stifle free speech on the conservative or reactionary side. They spoke only with eachother and had an idea that they were 'right' above the ability to let any other argument be heard. And that is scary.

It is also stupid when you lead a cause that depends in totality on convincing people that you are the good guys.
