The French.
French is an important language. It used to be the language of diplomacy, but since the demise of the diplomat, this is no longer required. It is also easier to learn than German, Russian and Chinese.
I have found French to be very useful and not just in France. Try explaining car problems to a Turkish mechanic. You'll soon find out that most 'Turkish' words for car parts and functions have been taken from the French.
Food and cookery terms.
Never regretted learning French. Has nothing to do with politics and ancient quarrels.

I do. At every opportunity. I feel very happy when I speak it and it comes as naturally as English. Psychologists have discovered that people take on the characteristics of foreign nationals when they switch into their language. According to research, using different languages alters basic characteristics traits such as extroversion and neuroticism. Perhaps this is why I feel so good when speaking French and why I want to do it. I become a more attractive person! And as soon as I say something like :"Vive la France!" I feel the change creeping over me....
