No its unfair to inflict this on a small child, they should wait til the child is 8 or 9 and let them decide for themselves.

I am the manager of a piercing/jewelry store and have been there for 13 years. I have pierced many babies ears, sometimes they cry sometimes they don't. I think 2 months old is the best time for babies to be pierced, as they grow they dont touch or pull on them, because they think it is a part of their body, its nothing new like it would be if you waited till she is like 3 or 4. However it is a parents personal choice. In my state the law requires two months old and the 2 month DPT shots. We are inspected by the health department on a monthly basis,so for people who say it is child abuse, I dont agree or it would not be legal. Good luck on your choice.

Yuk,I cant think of anything worse. In western society ear piercing is not cultural and not a neccesity so the child should be allowed to make an informed decision. I think it's a form of child abuse, and it looks awful. Whenever I see a child with earrings I just cringe.

I think pierced ears in a baby or young child is absolutely disgusting - only chavs get it done! Why stop at piercing, why not get them a tattoo as well?

I had my ears pierced as a baby took them out when I was about ten and had them repierced. Parents just like the look of children with their ears pierced it's a 'cute' factor. If when they grow up and don't like them they'll take them out, just like I did.

I've never met a girl or woman who wouldn't want their ears pierced, if they don't like it they can take it out.
It's better if the baby goes through the pain when they're young and then they won't remember it, I don't think it even bothers them. It's not cruel - everyone has it done. All little girls want their ears pierced, but they get put off by the pain.

I personally think its a form of child abuse to pierce a baby's ears. I dont think any jewellers worth their salt will do it.

I think it's better to do it when they are older because otherwise the piercing will be really high up when their ears grow.
By the way i think the first poster just meant that they slept through it and so it didn't hurt them! not that they died!

i was not allowed to have mine pierced till i was 16...very strict parents....no i would not pierce my child's ears at such a young age...leave that for her to decide...when she's about 9 she will see all her friends wearing earrings then she may want to follow suit...leave it to her to decide
