I haven't really kept the habit of reading them but when I first started what got me going was probably the feeling I was a little lost and in a rut for a time in my twenties and I didn't have internet access. Now today I like to hear most of the books I have as audio books and I put them on my mp3 player. Also I was tired of listening to all the people who knew me who kept passing along the same long held resentments towards me, or the same canned perspectives I have always gotten from them and having them call all of what ever they'd say to me was just good advice.
