Then why do I know loads of (sometimes well qualified) British people working in Pubs, Resturants, McDonalds, as cleaners, Labourers etc, callcentres, because they can't get anything better?
I'm sorry but I'm sick of hearing that we "need" immigrants to do these jobs. My BF has been stuck in a minimum wage pub job for ages and he is desperately trying to get out of it but he is having no luck at all. He is British.
I feel its unfair for immigrants to be taking jobs when there are British people already struggling to find decent paid work. I think those who have this beleif that "all" Brits have well paid jobs and we "turn our noses up" at low paid work are just living in a dreamland and obviously have really good jobs themselves. You should get back to reality and see how some of your fellow countrymen are living.

We do not have full employment in this country and as a result I don't see why we "need" immigrants to do anything. Back in the 1950s this was the case but things were very different back then. Not all of todays unemployed are "too lazy" to work, how disgusting that some people believe this! Some are genuinely in need of work.

No my Boyfriend does not have "low qualifications " or a bad attitude - he is a trained mechanic. He is finding it impossible to get back into the motor trade because of the competition - often from foreigners. He is taking all the responsiblity he can by applying for jobs every ******* WEEK!
People like you are the reason this country has gone to hell.
Or maybe you're just an immigrant yourself.

DolyDealer - you obviously live in a an area where people are rich enough to pick and choose. My BF travels 10 miles to his min wage job every day! He has no other choice! He also works with graduates. We live in South Wales.

Fake_Bullet - oh you're not able to get a higher paid job because you're an immigrant - boo hoo - go home then. Why are my "manners telling you how is my bf"? Perhaps its your English thats letting you down. Thats pretty bad,
I have a 2:1 degree and I work in a callcentre and I'm a "native" so its just as bad for us. How dare you suggest you deserve better treatment than the people who have been here all their lives!

We also have a friend who has just qualified as a plumber but has to work for min wage in his father's pub because he can't get work. What is the point in native British people bothering to get qualified when they are unable to use their skills?

Yeah, and people like you should stop moaning about a situation you can alter yourself.
Why is your bf in a low paid job? No qualifications? Bad attitude?
I'm sure you can come up with a pathetic excuse so that you don't have to accept any responsibility...
Well, your bf may not have a bad attitude, but you sure do - glad you have to work in a call centre...Heard of the dentist shortage??? Should we allow immigrants in the country to do that job?? You sound like you don't think any overseas people should be here....so you'd have no dentist and I'll see my brilliant, friendly, polite and hardworking Polish dentist - who just replaced the equally good South African one...you stupid, stupid woman.

I think that we need to also give the employer's a good old kick in the ****. Our employer's know full well that if they are having a problem filling a position that they can easily get a foreigner to do the job for probably less that the minimum wage.
Once they have solicited employment from a foreigner the person then finds it almost impossible to leave again. Most immigrant workers come for better pay and conditions when here they find that the pay even though more than they would get at home is only enough to live hand to mouth. They have a real problem leaving as they can't get the money together, the employer's have to be responsible for those that they bring to fill positions.

My 'immigrant' husband works in the Construction industry. I'll admit he doesn't get bad money, but he spent many years working in all the minimum wage jobs doing labouring. He got where he did today through hard work and experience. He deserves to finally be treated as an equal instead of some second grade citizen.
I'm sorry your husband can't get decent work, but don't think that immigrants have an easy time either. Everyone has to work their way up, nothing is ever handed to anyone on a plate.
Take care : )

I am a cleaner in the lower paid sector - Brit born and Welsh living and working in London. My firm always seems to have a problem getting workers. Most are a fine bunch of lads and gals from Africa - Nigeria actually. We also have one Pole and one Czech. The office staff are mainly Anglo-somethings. Quite a few people will turn their noses up at my job, which pays £5.50 an hour because they are too proud [prahd - as we say in London].
The African guys working with me are for the most part well educated and clever - one has recently left to pursue his lifelong ambition as an accountant. He managed this after getting through a City and Guilds cert thing. Another guy who worked with us until about a year ago, was actually a fully qualified doctor back home in Burma but had to requality in UK in order to work as a GP - he's now a GP - and so it goes

Tell your boyfriend to get his a*se into gear then you stupid woman, he must be thick if he can't get a better job than a non English speaking foreign worker, "competition" as you say, he needs to take a good look at himself and try to find out what he's doing wrong if these people are "taking his job".
I work in employment and it's a FACT that many many indigenous people won't get out of bed for minimum wage, you're trying to tell me that they can't join an employment agency and get work? these agencies are crying out for recruits and that's where the economic migrants come in.
So you're against us moving overseas for work are you? I doubt it very much. It works both ways you sad sad individual.
And what you say about your friend who's a plumber is the biggest load of tosh I've heard, it's recognised by the government that there's a national shortage of skilled tradesmen like plumbers and electricians, that's why they have been encouraging people to train in these areas.
Face it woman, you're just a racist, wind your neck in or shut the fcuk up you narrow minded, bigoted, archaic thinking slapper, it's the 2st1 century not 1920, whether you like it or not we are a multi-cultural country, if you don't like it either shut your big fat gob or fcuk off to some Communist country where everyone's the same colour.

This is because class warfare oppression MUST be maintained by the ruling 'class.' Training up, and paying to relocate workers is more expensive than importing an indian, as happened with my old company. It fired 35 design engineers and the next week a portacabin drew up outside with 35 immigrants sleeping in it all working for on $3 an hour. This happens because Britain is a cash slu.t. There is a process known as cosmpolitanisation of the wealthy. They will talk with another wealthy person from another nation, rather than talk with one from their own nation who earns less. Another manager from a local company sacked 100's of people and ran off to Poland with 17million of their pensions. No laws to protect us? I am a fully experienced Design Engineer and Architectural Technician, I was offered £6 an hour recently and this is less than a local cleaner.

We don't need immigrants. Someone who lives in your country is willing to do the jobs as they had to way before immigration was a concern. They might want a higher wage for it, but oh well. Immigrants do help to grow an economy just because they are extra people who consume products in the country they live in. But they do not do jobs that nobody else will do.

The Brit who works in these places your mentioned do work there because there is NO other way they find jobs. The bulk of these places staff are indeed non Brits.
As why immigrants work for minimum wage, it is because the employers are taking advantage of them. That is nasty.
Brits lack many skills, and abilities that colleges bribe 16-19 and other adult with weekly 30 pounds/ week to train them to fill such lack of skills.
Brits have to be afraid now, the Poles are already here.

I read your questions and your additional information and can only agree with you. The reasons that we are having these problems is due to our government and we all have the right to vote one of the ways to make ourselves heard. What our righteous MP’s don’t seem to realise that the more this goes on the worse things will get, the British people will not put up with this forever treated as second class citizens in their own country. I will not be one of them but I can see more and more voting for the BNP as a way to show the government how they feel and worse.
What about the rights of the British people or do we have to wait until we are a minority before we can claim our rights without being called racists.

I'm not sure your arguments even valid how many immigrants could possibly live in South Wales and if that's the case no british person would have a job in London. It sounds to me like you're just trying to find a scapegoat for the fact that your boyfriend is having trouble finding a job.

after the war there was a need for immigrants to build the country back up. then india and pakistans wars and the refugees - then everybodys refugees. I am British and should immigrate back there and if I have to I will work in a low paid job just to be there - my accent will come back in a couple of months - . Now all the northern cities and scottish along with wales and northern ireland are being invaded by asians, africans, slovaks and the like. You have to support your local party that is against immigration - that is your only hope to preserve England.
Good Luck to you. I will probably have to take a low pay job like your boyfriend when I come back there.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU 100 % - get involved in politics please - the UK needs people brave like you
