If I had to choose between Toronto and Montreal, I would pick Toronto, although I am not SUPER fond of it. And, by the way, Ontario and Quebec are central provinces, NOT Eastern. St. John's, Newfoundland Labrador IS Eastern, however, and it is my city of preference. The people are great. The scenery is amazing. And the culture is unlike any other in the world. I had friends that did a road trip accross Canada and St. John's was their favourite. A lot of people end up extending their stay because they love it so much!

Whether Toronto or Montreal is "better" depends largely on what age you are and what you expect from a vacation. Both cities have wonderful night life. Montreal is older and more interesting and the ambiance of the city is more European and cosmopolitan although Toronto is quickly catching up in the category. Both have a great waterfront area but Montreal has the better restaurants I think. In Montreal you can take your own wine to many of the restaurants thus reducuing the cost of restaurant meals. Check with the restautant first to see if that is their policy.

Well since i live in canada i might be able to inform you a little better. First of all there are TONS of cities...they are not few and far between. Second of all, its october...there is not snow on the ground everywhere...barely anywhere actually. I live near Toronto, so Im bias I love it there. Its a GREAT city, so much fun. Montreal is great as well though. The night life never seems to end...drinking age is 18, not 19 like ontario. Both are very scenic, and have tons to enjoy. And I do agree, going out west, BC is the way to go. The mountains, lakes, hot springs, you name it. Canada is a great place, and you'll love it wherever you go!

From east to west and south to north, Canada is a very diverse country. Even the flat prairies are something to see. All provinces and territories have something special (yes, even Saskatchewan!). This being said, I think that Western Canada, from Calgary to Victoria, offers the most scenic tourist experience, especially if you can drive. After exploring Calgary for a few days, drive west through Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, etc. then cross to British Columbia, find your way to the Kootenays, Arrow Lake, etc, the Okanagans, then move on to Vancouver and area. Try to camp, stay in a lodge, or spend time in national or provincial parks, depending on the season, go ski, canoe, kayak, bike, trek, walk, observe wildlife...I personally don't like either Toronto or Montreal and othe big cities, when I want to be immersed in a big city, I go to HK or Shanghai, so if you want big city experience, Canada is not the place to see, this country is about wide open spaces, outdoor fun, and nature at its best.

Are you wanting a cold climate, or something more tropical? Canada and Florida are two geographical extremes. This time of year, anywhere in canada would be cold and there would be snow on the ground. The cold might limit your activities there. In Florida, this time of year is the hurricane season. Unless you like gale force winds and ocean waves that pound on and destroy everything in its path, put off any plans to visit Florida until the hurricane season is over. In my experience, Florida is always sunny and balmy in March, April, May and June. I live in the United States.

for the west...it's hard to beat Lake Louise area-Banff, Yoho, Kootney, Jasper....and for an out of the way place...I really like Waterton Peace Park...the Canadian side of Glacier Nat'l Park in Montana...
for the far west Vancouver and Vancouver Island have it all
for the east....Toronto and Montreal are very cosmopolitan but Ottawa and Quebec are interesting and entertaining in their own ways...
and then Florida????? try Destin, the "panhandle" area...right on the gulf and NOT destroyed by Katrina last year....if you go too far west....Mobile, Gulfport, Biloxi are still recovering
or the extreme Florida....go all the way out on the Keys...truely memorable drive
good luck where ever you wind up

Ive been to Canada....mainly through the yukon.
Canada is a wonderful place, and you can see some great animal life during the summer.
But it does get very cold in the winter, so be prepared for that.
Its best to be in a big city (such as Edmonton) because there arent many first of all.
If you are in a little city, the next city might be 200 miles away. So try to go where there are many things to do.
