The best way to perfect baked potatoes is to stab the skins with a sharp knife, rub them in olive oil and then put salt on the skin (pref sea salt). Put them in the oven at 180 degrees C for at least an hour but preferably 90 minutes. Skins will be crunchy once they come out.

I don't like them just microwaved but what I do is put them in the microwave for between 5 and 10 mins depending on the size and then put them in a hot oven until they go crispy. Then you don't have to wait as long. Hope this helps..

I would agree with you. I leave mine for at least 1 hour, sometimes 90 mins. Microwave potatoes are vile.
Put some salt on the skin as well and perhaps put a skewer through it.

I would imagine an hour. You could put it in the microwave for like 5 minutes and then the oven to speed it along. Bake one for me too it sounds good right now, with lots of sour cream.

You can do them in a Microwave as well, for a large "spud" 5 minutes either side and they are just as good, and if you are doing only one or two you will save a lot on electric and on time as well. PS . you need more time if you put more potatoes, just takes a while to get used to.

Sounds about right, make sure the oven is pretty hot, I'd say 400 degrees (Hotter cooks faster, but thats not necessarily the flavor/effect you're going for.) Last thing you want is a tough potato.
When you press in with your fingers it should give. Need a "hot" over to produce that nutty-tasting, crusty skin you're talking about.

350 degrees for about an hour.
Pour a layer of salt (about 2 in. thick) on cookie sheet and put the potato on top of the salt. Make sure you put a slit in the potato, before you cook it. The salt allows the potato to cook all the way through and evenly without drying/burning the bottom.

People on here seem to like their spuds burnt to a crisp! 1hr to 1hr 20 minutes at 200 degrees (180 fan) should do the trick depending on the size of the spud in question. If you like them a bit crispy then rub a little bit of olive oil into the skin before popping them in the oven - yum! Can you do me one?.....
