I suppose you can, if you have to. The milk adds to the richness of the Yorkshire puddings, however most importantly the milk is needed for the protein. In order for a baked product to have 'structure' you need to have protein. The protein will keep the structure of the Yorkshire pudding strong, so it doesn't shrink back to absolutely nothing. Do not try and add a higher protein flour to make up for not using milk. You can substitute yogurt or soy/rice milk if you prefer.

When you make the batter up, really really whisk it so there is lots of air in the mixture, then put it in the fridge for an hour before you want it. Put a pan of oil in the oven for about 15 mins before you put the batter in (this is irrelevant with toad in the hole because the sausages are already cooking in the pan). Take batter out of the fridge and whisk again, then take hot pan out of oven, pour batter straight onto it and put it straight back in again. Then DO NOT open the door again till the yorkshire is ready. Good luck!

Yep it won't work at all. You should always keep canned condensed milk in the cubbard just for the times like this when you are out of milk. Also, British yorkshire pudding and other British foods are at the very bottom of my lists with those german sausage things. Let's try to get our inspiration from France or Italy, or even Greece. But leave British food and German food for "those" people. LOL

make your batter as normal BUT instead of using normal cold water (as well as milk) replace the water with fizzy bottled water, it works everytime as the fizzy water puts loads more bubbles into the batter therefore its failsafe

Yes it will affect the usual taste, but should not be a great deal.
If you eat it with water more often, you will acquire a taste for it so feel free.
