The manufacturer is normally forced to sell to the supermarket at a very reduced price

The technical name for that type of promotion is a 'lost leader'. The supermarket lets people buy a special offer at below cost price because they know that the customers are going to pick up other purchases which will give them a profit. If you go into a supermarket and only buy BOGOFs and special offers, they will not make any money from you.

You quite often find the same buy one get one free in different supermarkets so the manufacturers must do the offers. At the end of the day if we go in and buy them, we also buy other stuff so no-one ever loses out.

BOGOF is a clever ploy cos very few people only buy that one offer

And since supermarkets make their profits from cheap (well, some do) products with a fast turnover, it still makes a profit. Besides, im sure the mark up isnt too badly dented

because it isnt on the shelf so long, its cheaper to move. The cost of shelf/floor space and oveheads is spread over total sales, The volume of rapid sales keeps it cheap

simple answer - They can afford it

Well, if anyone thinks you get something for nothing, then they won't realize that we always pay. The manufacturer of the product, nor the store ever sell anything at a "loss" so we pay. It does work in that it gets us to buy two at the actual value. This gives you a guage of the profit companies make. If they can two for one, then at regular price 50% is profit. Which means they make a dollar for ever dollar spent. Hope this does not get too confusing.

We all subsidise it via other products. It is paid for out of either the advertising budget or to get rid of stuff that will not sell at it's original price.

i think that quite a lot of products have a big mark up so they are able to do buy one get one free, also doing this gets people into the store and possibly makes them buy more goods than they would have intended.i think c is the answer

Not you. Sometimes the manufacturer or supplier does it all, or it is a half and half with the supplier and the supermarket.

I thought this buy 1and get 1 free meant you got 2 at1/2 price.
