I think "Christian" has become a label that people use to define a standard that makes them feel better about themselves. If they call themselves one, it's because they're a good person, and if they call someone else one, it's because that person is judgemental, or close minded.
"Christian" listerally translates little Christ.
Can we ever go back?
I would ask, can Christians, ever truly be "little Christs"? Or even, just a little more like Christ; in the world and not of it?

In the crusades do you consider killing an Islamic warrior "not offending anyone"? Where the heck do you want to go back to? Offending someone is just part of life. It is and always be there. About today's media, I think in the time of the crusades the Immoral and Offensive are more real. An example of this would be the raping of a woman. Your not watching TV it's live on your room. For offensive, the example would be the killing of enemy soldiers. Thus, I go back to the question... Where the heck do you want to go back?

You asked, "Can we ever go back?"
To what? The corruption that existed in yesterday's world.
You have a distorted view that makes you think that the past was somehow better. Not true.
No age is better or worse than any other age.
If you are tired of not offending anyone, just what are you doing that is causing you to feel that way? That is what you should be asking about. By puting the problem in a question that has an obvious "no" you are avoiding dealing with whatever the real issue is.
Time to solve problems instead of pretending you are.

Its "Christians" who actually make the most immoral entertainment. If you don't like it, just turn it off! And if you don't want to be offended by others, don't offend others. Born again christians are the so called moral majority in the states, the people who want to burn books, and put some authors to death for writing fantasy fiction. Its the christians who are trying to tell me when I can reproduce, and with whom. Its the christians who want their religion taught in school exclusively. Its the christians who are trying to stop scientific expansion. its the christians who are the second most bigotted people on the face of the planet. with the muslims first.

Stood up AGAINST society? Christians ARE society! They have an 80% majority in the United States! What are you talking about?
***
Christianity is an unbelievably powerful force in this country. The fact that there are shows on TV that you don't like doesn't mean that it's not true. The United States has one of the lowest percentages of people who believe in evolution. Hell, over half the country thinks that creationism should be taught in schools, either alongside or in place of evolution... not any other creation theory, but CHRISTIAN creationism! And don't even get me started about Christianity's influence in politics...

Regardless of the media most people are striving to be good people, maybe you are concentrating on the wrong things. Go out and talk to some people and you will see that they are trying their hardest to survive. Christians aren't the only ones with morals and values, other people are capable of doing good as well.

You did, in the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust, and during various witch hunts. What religion did the Nazis profess? Christianity, of course--kinder, kuche, und kirk. (women were confined to having kids, cooking, and going to church) Hitler was BIG on banning gays, books, paintings, among other people and things. And millions died, horribly. Get off your mythical high horse and join the human race. Neither you not I are better than any one else by virtue of religion, race, gender, nationality, politics, nor sexual preference. Jesus didn't judge ( except to kick hypocritical money grubbers out of the temple) and according to tradition he hung out with "the lowest of the low." As Gandhi the peacemaker once said "I quite like your Christ, but not your Christians. They don't act very much like your Christ."

Sadly, no. But as Christians we are called to turn our backs on the world and turn to God. I tuned out to media long ago. Only watch TV occasionally and thank GOD for digital cable b/c of all the choices.

You guys need to stop this whole "Help help, we're being oppressed!" bullcrap. Christians are the majority in this country. Our leaders are Christians. They are trying (and sadly, succeeding) to turn your religious beliefs into laws that everyone, Christian or not, must follow. In several states, you can't run for office if you don't believe in your god. Muslim Americans face hate and even violence every day, Atheists are the least trusted group of people in the country, and homosexuals can't get married. Tell me, oh trod upon one, what do YOU have to complain about?
You are not oppressed. You are the oppressor.
