It's difficult to generalize an entire population but I wonder how true this idea is. I heard this alot and have talked to a few people that have traveled to Ireland and agreed. However, they traveled there at least a decade ago. So if they are the friendliest, does it still hold true today, especially towards Americans?

No, maybe to tourists with money but not in general. If they were, would they be blowing each other up? I found the Irish in the republic to be very stand-offish and aggressive. Friendliest people in general would be the Kiwis.

When we went last spring, the people of the smaller towns were not unfriendly, just seemed to ingore us and were a little leary of us. There were tons of French tourist, so maybe they thought we were French!

You can't really go with all those generalizations...Irish are friendly, Germans are racist, French are rude, etc...

You'll find friendly and rude people everywhere you go..
