Ronin, you've made a great point, but then that's not us anymore.
no desires & we're all the same; supposedly happy
do you truly believe you can ever achieve this

I can tell you from experience that God's dreams for us are often so much bigger than our own dreams for ourselves. That is why so many pursue things they think will make them happy (money, fame, etc), and discover an emptiness when they attain these things- as one who has a dream where they are eating and eating and eating, then awakens only to still be hungry. And sometimes it takes letting go of our desires to discover the true desires of our hearts. This is why God tells us, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and I will give you the desires of your heart." He also said, "I know the plans I have for you...plans to prosper you and not harm you, to give you a hope and a future."
So do not give up on desires!! Just discover the true desires of your heart, which God will reveal to you.
May God richly bless your latter years so that they are far more prosperous than your former years...as He did for Job.

31. Spring and Fall to a young child
MÃRGARÃT, áre you grÃeving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leáves, lÃke the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Ãh! ás the heart grows older 5
It will come to such sights colder
By and by, nor spare a sigh
Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
And yet you wÃll weep and know why.
Now no matter, child, the name: 10
Sórrow’s sprÃngs áre the same.
Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It Ãs the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.
Screwdriver: I hope it helps...

Sounds like the 4 Noble Truths on Buddhism to a T.
All suffering is caused by desire. The only way to eliminate this suffering is to eliminate the desire or ignore it. You might want to do some reading on Tibetan, Mahayana, or even Zen Buddhism. Zen can be a little too radical for some westerners right off.

You don't. You will never forget. Sure it will slip you mind from time to time, but the memory will still be there
What's important is how you deal with the loss. Do you stand around moping or do move on? My advice, move on.
Let's take the the rejection of a loved one, for example. I've been in this situation before. I spent about 7 years of my life trying to make it work. But she had no intentions of coming back. In those seven years, I had many opportunities to be with another that would love me. But I allowed myself to be so bogged down with grief, that I was blind to it.
You won't forget, the pain does go away with time, but you'll never forget. Move on. The world is a large place with many possibilities. Go find yours.

Peace be upon you Kelly,
Some things are not meant to be and if you are a believer then you should accept it as your destiny. There is a reason for everything that happens to us in our lives, and on the Judgement Day we will be judged based on these things. The Mercy of God on someone who had the things in life and the one who didn't have the chance (like you) will be different. So be patient and accept it as your destiny, also do not forget to ask for it from God still, you never know maybe the miracle of God will happen to you.
InshAllah may God make it easy on you. Ameen.

Maybe you long for the things you know you can't reach.
Reach for self-respect first, and branch out from there.
