I hate this and it causes me to tip smaller. I'm a one cup a day person plus if I choose to drink a little more after they've filled it I have to fix it up again! Does anyone agree this is annoying?

When I see them coming I put my hand over my cup but it seems like they come right up behind me before I can say anything and fill my cup. What's wrong with them asking before pouring?

Tell her ahead of time that you're having one cup and you do not want refills. If she still does it after you give her the heads up on your wants and needs, then tip her accordingly.

I'm sure the waitresses don't realize that you're a one cup a day person. I mean they're only human..It's their job to make sure that your experience at that particular restaurant is an amazing one. Don't tip smaller try to put yourself in their shoes. Waitresses have to deal with a whole lot of mess during a typical work day so, if they forget you said no coffee and they pour anyway charge it to their head and not their heart. I understand where you're coming from...but it's just coffee!!

It's part of their job. All you have to do is make sure when the waitress comes around to fill it up again, politely say no thanks you, I have a one cup limit and smile. If you miss the waitress, just place your napkin over the top, better yet if it's empty just turn your cup over on a napkin.
You shouldn't tip smaller just because someone is doing their job.

Are you kidding?! Most people complain if we DON'T keep the coffee filled!! Tell her when you order it that you only one want cup so she doesn't have to bother refilling your coffee. Trust me, it's music to my ears. I hate bringing coffee refills, so she'll/he'll appreciate this. ANd if your worried she'll fill it anyway, put the cup furthest away from the edge of the table so you'll see her reach for it and you can stop her. I hate waiting on people like you. If your tip gets smaller 'cause of something like this, I don't want you in my section!! Sorry we're trying to keep you happy.

is this really the biggest issue you have to worry about? why not drink your cup and then when she refills it just don't drink any more that way the cup will be full and she won't refill it. if you complain and don't tip because of this i can't even imagine how you react when you actually get bad service. You are the perfect example of some people never being happy

They are told to do this. The majority of customers drink more than one cup. If you don't want another one, tell them to take the cup away after you drink it or turn it upside down toward the back of the table.

Yes, I think they should ask first. I am sure they think they are doing well by keeping your cup full, but you are right, you have to fix it up again and then the proportions are wrong.

It's the American way. But, to us cream & sugar people, it's really annoying. I put a napkin over the cup. They always point it out, but I explain that's how I want it to be.

Waitresses are trained to keep customers happy by keeping their coffee cups filled. They can't distinguish between coffee fiends and picky coffee drinkers like you. Jeez. Give everybody a break.
