My son, age 24, was recently diagnosed with cancer. He wanted me in the exam room with him so that all information would be asked and two sets of ears were listening to the results and steps to be involved in curing it. I was not in the exam room while he was disrobed tho.
I think if it is a normal exam, your parents do not have to be in the exam room with you. However, if you are still a minor like 14 to 18, you may want them in the exam room for any diagnosis or treatment to be given. Younger than 14, a parent can give you confidence to get all the information that you need to ask. Doctors can be intimidating, especially if they are in a hurry and don't want to spend that extra time with you. This is where a parent, who is much more experienced in dealing with them, will tell them to sit down and answer all questions and concerns.

I think it depends on the age, and what kind of exam we are talking about. My son is 12 and my doctor asks me to come in the room so we can chat about how my son is doing while the doctor does the exam. It's not a graphic exam or anything and we are all comfortable about it. I think having a mom there if you are a girl is fine. When my son gets a little older, I will give him his privacy if he requests it, but I am confident with my doctor, and he has nurses in the room too.

Depends on your age. Maybe if you're 10 or 11 or younger, then yeah. But if you're older, you should be able to have the choice of whether or not your mom comes in. You're dad shouldn't be there at all, unless you're really young and he's a single parent.

Yes, until you are old enough to take responsibility for your own health. Not when you are in college. But even in the teen years, it is your parents responsibility to keep you healthy. That's why they pay for your insurance and make you eat your vegetables.
If you need to speak to the doctor privately regarding something, ask your parents to sit this one out or set up another appointment with your doctor and take a bus. Doctors will check for STD's and give advice on birth control and/or drugs to teens without parents present. They are there to help you and give you accurate information.

I stopped going in with my son when he was twelve. I was a single parent and thought he might want a private talk . Sometimes kids hold back information if a parent is there. If they were checking for something like Cancer I would go in. My sons doctorhad been my ped. Dr. when I was a child. He started calling him Gramps when he was 3.

yes, if you are under the age of teenager. Teens are more conscious of their own bodies and dont want mom or dad to see anything.
But dont forget, mom / dad changed your diapers when you were young and moms/dads have the same body parts as you do.
But if you as a teen feel better keeping mom and dad out, that is perfectly ok.
my, how you as a teen has grown up. moms and dads need to adjust to their baby growing up !!

up until age 16 for sure possibly 18
it is really for your and the doctor's protection. If I were a doctor, I would want the parent to be there to hear and witness everything I were saying and doing to their child.

No, just ask them to leave if they stay in the room. The doctor should do it anyway.
