The invention has to be in the math, science, or technology field and has to have influenced your life or the lives of other people. (I'm doing this for an entrance essay to a school that's hard to get into)
Thx

I would vote for the TRANSISTOR.

the transistor is the basis for almost all electronic devices we use nowdays, including computers, radio, television, medical equipment, various parts of cars (such as ignition), digital cameras.

Before transistors, it was possible to make computers and televisions and various other electronic devices. But they were much simpler, much less reliable, and much slower. Also much more expensive, and much bigger than modern electronic devices.

The transistor could be considered the first nano-technology device, as the size of a single transitor now days is somewhere aroudn 100 nanometers.

The other great invention of the 20'th century is the modern brassiere, more commonly referred to as bra, worn by women in the western world.

plastics and the transistor are good contenders.

i'd also suggest quantum mechanics (which
among other things, provides the theoretical
basis for integrated circuits and transistors).
