Hubby and I went to Pattaya a few years ago and I felt so sad for the girls who worked there. We had no idea what the resort was going to be like thought it was just a quiet beach and town. How wrong we were. There were so many gogo bars you lost count. The sight of them throwing themselves at any man just to earn some money was heartbreaking. We talked to a lot of them and they are absolutely desperate for money. All they want to do is to marry a foreigner so that they can have a better life. They don't keep hardly any of the money they earn as they send it to their families. These girls are pushed into the sex trade as this is the only option to them. The worst is how young some of them are. Despite laws preventing underage sex, you see 10 year old girls trying to attract middleage men, it's awful.
Most of them who cannot continue in the sex trade will just go back to their families where they will stay poor and live a life of utter poverty. There are no other opportunities for them.

I think even before the tsunami, they were probably poor and down and out, and the tsunami just exacerbated it. That said, I cannot believe that any form of disaster can be a blessing from God. I think people can find their own meaning from disasters, but I don't believe it's a blessing. After all, there's a reason disasters are called "disasters".

As usual, it's the governments fault. Their politicians are as corrupt as any. As long as their OWN pockets are filled to hell with the common workers. Hell will be so filled with politicians there won't be any room for anyone else!!!!!!!!!!!! Those poor people really have no other way to turn to earn $ and their families support their decision to do this work.

LOL, good one. I suppose since Sodom and Gomorrah and every man, woman, and child were slaughtered, that Thailand could be forgiven, or god would have flattened the whol kit and kaboodle. Those innocent babies killed were jsut a warning.

We cannot fathom the judgements of God.
What you say (that many prostitutes are no able to work in this "trade") sounds like a spiritual advantage more important than poverty. May God help them!
