My boyfriend and I have been together on and off for 6 years. We have a good relationship but are no where near marriage. A lot of my friends are getting married, and I am happy for them, but feel slightly left out. It seems like so much importance is placed on the "step" of getting married. I want to remind myself that just because I am not married, I am still a successful, smart young woman. I've heard of and seen right hand diamond rings that symbolize just that. Do you think they are tacky? I am not going to wear it as an engagement ring, it's going to be on my right hand.

I dont think its tacky at all. Its just like you said, you are a beautiful, successful, smart young woman-you can buy yourself whatever you want! I say go for it! More power to ya! I think that every woman should feel totally comfortable being independent and buying herself whatever she wants!

I did this many years ago. I was in a terrible relationship and I thought he was the one who was going to be the man I would marry. I was waiting and waiting for him to propose. I decided I didn't need a man to buy me a ring. So I bought myself a ring. I sometimes wear it on my left hand and it serves as a reminder to be true to myself and to love and take care of myself and not let go of who I am. It also makes people wonder when I wear it on my left hand;-) Scares away the guys too;-)

If you want a diamond ring and can afford it, I say, buy on! You don't need to wait to get married to have a diamond ring. Reward your success in whichever way you see fit. Huge props from me for even considering this. If only more women around here were as independent as you obviously are.

If its a ring that usually has some style of which ability between you and somebody else, then sure it could be cheesy. i'm speaking like an engagement ring, promise ring, Claddagh ring, etc. yet in simple terms an high priced ring, or any jewelry for that count, there isn't something incorrect with procuring it your self.

Definitely NOT! You have a right to buy, do, and say as you so choose, to ensure your satisfaction and happiness.
.....And as long as it doesnt hurt another. Obviously, I dont see where this would harm anyone. Go for it. You've obviously earned it!

If it will make you feel better about yourself, and your accomplishments, then by all means, buy yourself one! You have worked hard and earned it...celebrate!!

It's tacky if you buy it yourself - get your bf to buy it for you as a gift, then it will be special.
