I live really close to the hotel i will be staying at and I heard that you can give them your credit card to hold but pay with cash. Is this possible to do in advance?

Yes, just tell them you want to pay cash, and to just use the card to hold the room. They want your card information in case you don't cancel in time or there are damages to the room.

Some will allow to hold the room even without a credit card...not many anymore, but ask. They have to accomodate those without credit cards or those not wanting to use them.

Being that you live close to the hotel, be careful. I stayed at one like 15 miles from my house and they charged a $50 deposit being that I was within a certain distance to the hotel. I did get it back, but it was a shocker at first. So be prepared in case they do that!

Yes it is. Just explain to the hotel that you only want the credit card number to be used to hold the room. If you have the cash now you can also use that to hold the room.

Some hotels may accept cash, but you will not be able to reserve any rooms before your arrival to the hotel without a credit/debit card.
