So you wanna be a Paramedic...LOL

I will first answer your question as to what I like about my job.

I have been doing Emergency Medical Services for almost 11 years now, and I love helping people. I was like you and around the age of 12 I began to get an interest in EMS.

There are several ways to get started in EMS, and one of the easiest is through the Explorers program through the BSA. It is open to both boys and girls, usually age 12 to 21, and the most common through local volunteer fire departments. Some Fire Departments and rescue squads have Junior Departments which allow 15 - 17 year olds to join and begin their training but restricts them in not doing dangerous activities such as the actual firefighting.

As a Paramedic I must stress that you really focus on science and math since they are the most important subjects in Para Medicine, and most Paramedic Programs are college courses, so you will need to keep good grades so that you can get into a good program.

Hope this helps, and good luck. Also let me know if there is anything else related to this topic that I can help you with.

I've been a paramedic for about 6 months now, and I love my job!
One of the best things about it is that you get to help people when they need it most. It's a challenge to give every patient the best care possible.
Some of the things that I dislike about my job is the relatively low pay compared to the responsibility, irregular hours, and it's pretty hard physically.
To become a paramedic in the United States, you need to graduate highschool, or get your GED. Then you need to take an EMT-Basic course. You usually need to be at least 17 to enroll in the course, and 18 to get your certification. The course lasts about a semester, and you will learn basic patient care.
After that, you can enroll in a paramedic school. You usually need to be 19 to enroll, and it lasts for about a year for the certificate program, and two years for the associate's degree. Some states require an associate's degree to work as a paramedic there, while most don't. After you complete the school, you are required to do an internship with a local ambulance company, and then you get to take state and national writtten, practical, and oral tests. If you pass, then you are a paramedic!
Hope this helps!
