1. He treats you with respect, both in private and in public.

2. He genuinely likes you (not just lusts after you).

3. He is financially responsible -- as in, he pays the bills on time and spends money wisely. This is not the same thing as having a lot of money!

4. He is willing to make sacrifices for your happiness but will not allow himself to be abused for your whims -- if he doesn't stand up for himself, you won't respect him.

5. He loves his ideals more than he loves you -- he will not lie, cheat, steal or in any other way violate what he believes is right just to avoid sleeping on the couch.
