The causes are usually Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis. Treatment is amoxicillin, augmentin or a similar antibiotic

A child's eustachian tube is shorter and straighter than an adult's and more prone to blockage and infections. Ideally the child's head should be slightly elevated during sleep. When washing or swimming be extra careful to not get any water in their ears. Don't use a q-tip or any other small object to clean their ears because the membranes are very delicate.
If your child does get an ear infection, see a doctor right away because if left untreated for too long the child can lose their hearing.

Truthfully I don't know the cause but as mentioned antibiotics is the typical treatment but the more antibiotics one used the weaker the immune system becomes because the antibiotics can't distinguish between good and bad bacteria so they all get destroyed.

Many have eliminated ear infections by using all-natural Optiflora.
This two product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus..microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Patented guaranteed delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines.

This supplement is perfectly safe for all ages - infants to seniors with not negative side effects.

I don't know what it is that causes ear infections but I do have three kids who have gone through that. My oldest had ear infections almost once a month and I was in the er constantly. I had visited my dad's girlfriend (older southern lady) and she had a little bottle of castor oil. What she did was heat it up just a little (microwaved it for a couple of seconds) and dropped a couple of drops in each of my daughter's ears, stuck cotton balls in each ear then moved it around in there. I swear to you that since then she has never had another ear infection (she was around 2 and is now 13)! I know I didn't answer your question but I hope this helps in resolving the issue!

Prevent infections of the throat and treat the same immediately. Otherwise the infection will spread to the inner ears via Eustachian tube.(A canal, partly bony, partly cartilaginous, measuring 1.5 to 2 inches in length, connecting the pharynx with tympanic cavity.)
Please see the webpages for more details on Otitis media.

They just happen. Water can get in the ear from bathing or swimming. You can get a secondary infection from cold, the flu or allergies. They need a doctor visit for correct diagnosis and prescription of antibiotics to cure.

Water in the ears is one cause. Another is milk. If she feeds from a bottle, her head must be propped up while feeding. Otherwise, milk can enter the middle ear and lead to infection. As she is one year old, try weaning her off from the bottle.

For most kids it is a weak immune system, this can be caused by a number of household products from bleaches to Lysol to air fresheners. These all contain chemicals that can lower the immune system. It is amazing how healthy a child can become when these products are replaced by safe natural products.
