I gave my friend, who teaches preschool, a great idea for teaching language/words/vocabulary. She used it, loved it, and turned it into a company that we use to make money on our ideas. She didin't ask me but just told me after the fact that she had turned it in, and that she'd give me the money - she was just so excited about the idea, I guess, that she turned it in without asking me, who knows - anyways - she came to my store where we talked about splitting it because she had turned it in and changed it a little - laminating it and that's about it. We never discussed figures or anything then - but now the idea did earn us some money. And now we need to split it. How should we split it? If I had never told her, then she'd have no money - and I could have turned it in at my leisure later - but if she hadn't turned it in then I 'd have no money yet for it - but could have done it later myself. Anyways MY idea, HER slight modification - so who gets what? THANKS THANKS THANKS

Well, even though it was your idea, she was the one that turned it in. Had you waited and turned it in on your own time, someone may have beat you to it with their own idea and then you would not have gotten any money at all.

Since it was a joint venture and you did part of the work and she did the leg work, you should split the profits, 50-50. Of course, had she not turned it in, there would be no money for either one of you to split.

Hope this is helpful!! Congratulations on your idea!!!

You should get 30%. She dosn't technachilly have to give you anything. She went to the trouble of "turning it in" which reqired some work. If you thought you could benifit from it or help someone you should have done it yourself and chances are your had thought about this for some time and probably were never going to get around to actully turning it in.

I would discuss it with her and come to a conclusion about what you both think is fair. Remember that friendship, though, is worth more than money. Stay away from being petty.

you should do 50/50. then, breakdown to the details like what you need or what you want. or you can work out the details like a budget. i did one time and it worked great.

Take exactly what she gives you. She could refuse to give you anything. She is being fair and generous. If it is a 50/50 divide, so much the better but if I was her and you argued for more, I would tell you to walk.......................

take 40%. tell her she deserves the bigger half. you'll probably end up with 50% instead.
