Try to find a compounding pharmacy. They will need to know the medication and then they can check as to what medium it will be stable in for a suspension/solution formulation. You cannot always just crush tablets/capsules and give them to a patient, in some cases that can be very dangerous! Do not do that without consulting a pharmacist or physician. I have made hundreds of different types of drug suspensions for patients just like your mother.

If you would mention the pill we could help you more. There are dissolveable tabs that melt in your mouth, there are sprays, there are enteric coated pills that spare the stomach, there are suppositories and possibly something could be compounded for that, there are nasal sprays, there are skin patches, there are gtts (drops) so whatever the malady I think something could be worked out. If she has iron deficiency anemia then standard FeSO4 can be hard on the stomach but there are other preparations. Sometimes they give an IV solution until the normal parameters are met and then the pt. can maintain the level with any of the various oral types. Sometimes taking these pills with food helps alot. Hang in there the cavalry is around the corner, there's usually alternatives, it's just experimenting for awhile to see what works.

The Doctor is not being mean, as to many can damge you, if you look at the list of side affects in the box, or find on the web you will see. you can buy them over the counter but I would recomend listening to your Doctor, if not sure go and ask the dispencer or Pharmistis in your local chemist shop. he will also be the best to advise whether injections are better or available for different drugs. Hope this helps you.

Talk to you pharmacist about some alternatives. They can do a process called "companding" where they grind pills with a mortar and pestel or some newer thingamajigger. Some pharmacists created nicotine lollipops to help smokers for example. Now that turned out to not be legal because of the politics around nicotine. But pharmacists changing the flavor or form or mixture of medicines has been their domain for a long time. Ask him or her.

Nope effectiveness is the same as long as the dosage is the same. Liquid tastes nasty but starts to work faster than a pill. On the other hand pills can have extended release which is great for pain medicine. So you need to choose which is best for your particular situation. God Bless and Peace out....

Firstly see another doctor for a second opinion and get a proper diagnosis.
As for tablets, if they are not available as liquid, they may be available as disolvable so she can take them in water. Failing that buy a pill crusher and grind them into a powder which you can put with a small amount of water or on a teaspoon of jam.

Hi!
The best thing to do is the crush the tablets and put them in some lemonade.
The bubbles from the lemonade attach themselves to the crushed tablets and that helps them go down easier. Much better than water.
Also, it sounds as if it's time for your mum to find a more empathic doctor.
Hope this helps, and good wishes to your mum, hope she's soon better.

I would think the best thing to do would see if they can be crushed and still effective. Talk with the pharnacist that you get the medication from he will be glad to help you. If you are unhappy with the treatment you are recieving from the doctor find a doctor that will suit your needs better.

You can crush the tablets between 2 teaspoons(use base of second spoon to crush to fine powder) then mix with yoghurt or something your mum likes. The first thing I feel you should do is change your doctor. You don't have to have a reason, just ask other people who they recommend, and go to register.Has your mum had a thyroid test? She may have a good Hb level now ( iron) so her problem may be something else. Un-diagnosed problems in women can be endometriosis, hyper-thyroidism, hypo-thyroidism pelvic inflammatory disease, anxiety symptoms and effects, all of which can lead to a depression and so many physical symptoms. Please ask your mum to list all of her problems, then see if you can attribute them to something which can be changed in her life. I sincerely wish her good health, and I think you are a fantastic daughter to be trying to help her. But first thing is-hey-get another doctor!!!! One you feel you can trust-maybe a lady doctor would investigate your mum more diligently? They can identify better with our feminine complexities! My very best wishes to you both, and my thoughts.

Hallo,
I am afraid the only other way is Rectally? a number of medicines can be taken as pessaries, I know its not a nice thought, but they are actually absorbed a lot quicher than by the gut? and its a small price to pay for relief.
Wish you both well
