well, first of all, you've got it backwards. generally you're suppose to get married then live together. but let's face it, who does it that way anymore? i know i didn't. :)

i would say at least a year of being together and then you move in together. then, it's really up to you. wait at least 6 months to 1 year. make sure things are going well.

but sounds to me like you already may know that you want to marry this person. there's not really any set rules that say you have to date for this long before you can get married. do what your heart tells you to.

It depends on the couples living situation beforehand. Some people have bad habits that others can't live with or need to be broken.
There are always difference of opinion in finances, lifestyle, ect.

In general, I say a couple should date 1 1/2 - 2 years before moving in. I think the engagement should be at least the same.

It's up to the couple. Each couple is different. I see living together as pretty close to being married, except either one of you can decide to "bail" easier if things aren't working. Part of being married is learning to work together to work out problems, even when it's really tough! Same as with being in any relationship. Unfortunately, society doesn't really focus on that so much these days. I think that if the two of you are crazy about each other and really are committed to each other, and you are willing to work through the tough times, why not date enough to realize that you want to spend the rest of your lives together? No specific length of time can decide what's right for the two of you.

There is no set time limit but a good one is
1 year and 1 year.
I differently think that moving into together is fine as long as each personal had the ability to leave the relationship and go else where if they break up. I know a couple who is struggling because they bought a house together and neither one can afford to leave.... so it's added stress.

My FI and I did a trail run :) He still had time on his apartment and he moved in to my place..... so if things didn't work out he had a place to go.... We did that for 2 months and then decided we would be OK. I had been living by myself for over 5 years so it was hard for me to adjust.

A couple shouldn't move in together before they are married - it ruins all the fun and the mystery. I would say date the person at least a year, then get engaged - wait at least another six months to a year before being married.

Some say couples should never live together before they get married because then you get so used to each other that the man usually neber commits to getting married.
I would say wait at least 1 year if you want to move in with each other (I would rent an apartment not buy anything, in case you ever break up).
Get married after at least 2 yrs together.

It is different for everyone. If you both feel you want to live together before marrying, then try it out! But it is not necessary. You should know when it is right to marry. If you have a really strong relationship then both of you should know when it is right. :-) (It's okay to talk about it with him - set some goals and tell each other what you want out of the future.)

I think that you should only live together after you're married. i was talking to my friend abuot this not too long ago and i believe that moving in together can cause a whole mess of problems. yes i know that it would be like a trial run but when your married, you cant just run out and leave when ever you want to. that would mean you'd have to divorce and its much more of a hassle. when your dating and live together the other person can leave whenever they feel like things arent going well. when your married it forces you to press on through the hard times and not just give up when it gets tough, and it will get tough. so my advice to you is to wait till you get married. if you really love this person then get married and then live together.

The time involved differs with each couple. A younger couple needs to take a long time to make sure they know what they are doing.

An older couple has more experience and can move through the steps of a relationship faster.
