With the exception of Type O negative blood as the donated blood or the recipient, yes unmatched blood can cause death. You call it transfusion reaction where when the unmatched blood mixed up together , it will result to an antigen-antibody reaction where there will be blood destruction (or hemolysis) which may cause serious symptoms including kidney failure and shock which could eventually cause death if not treated promptly.♥

It depends on the blood type of the donor and the blood type of the recipient. There are four major blood types--A, B, AB, and O. O is considered the "universal donor". This means type O blood cells can be given to anyone. AB is considered the "universal recipient". This means those with type AB blood can receive any other type of blood cells. The reason for this is antigens on the red blood cells, and antibodies in the plasma (liquid part of the blood). Type O blood cells do not have any antigens, therefore can be transfused into anyone. Type A blood has antibodies against B cells, and can only receive A or O blood cells. Type B blood has antibodies against A cells, and can only receive B or O cells. Type O blood has antibodies against A and B cells, and can ONLY receive type O cells. Type AB has no antibodies, so can receive cells from all other types. Only the cells, without the plasma, are transfused.
When blood from the wrong blood type is transfused, a reaction occurs in the body. The body recognized the "foreign" blood cells, and begins destroying them. In the subsequent destruction, the spleen and kidneys are overwhelmed, and can subsequently fail. Once the process begins, only symptomatic treatment can be done.

Unmatched blood types causes an immune system response to begin. Because the blood is different than the one that is in the body, it rejects the blood as it would any foreign invader such as a virus or bacterium. It causes the blood to coagulate because of the anti blood serums found in our body.

However, there are exceptions, O negative is the universal donor because it does not contain any antigens that can provoke an immune response. AB is the universal recipient because it contains both AB antibodies, and would not reject any blood type. However, A can only receive from A, and B from B. Any other blood type donations, other than O, will cause rejection and coagulation of the blood.

rarely yes. it is not htat the transfused blood directly causes death. its rather our bodies reaction to it(as in case of allergy) that may cause death. to put it in simple terms, the bloodstream of the person will generate antibodies that fight the infused blood. so, its not advisable to even try it as we cant judge the patient's reaction.

Yes. "Care must be taken in transferring blood from one person to another, however, because the patient's plasma may contain substances, called ANTIBODIES or AGGLUTININS, that can cause the red cells of the donor's blood to rupture and release their hemoglobin (Oxygen storage). Such cells are said to be HEMOLYZED and the resulting condition can be dangerous."

yes...think of it as a tissue transplant... unmatched and incompatible tissues cause transplant reaction which could be fatal if the donor is in a compromised state.

And remember, it is a foreign body and anything foreign introduced to the body causes adverse reactions

In certain circumstances it may not kill, but it may kill depending on the host's blood type as well as the donor's.
